The word 'Mathematics' tends to bring out a whole range of emotions in most of us, the seeds of which were probably sown when we were ourselves children in school. Now that we, as teachers, carry the responsibility of sowing the seeds, how do we ensure we do it right?
To begin with, what are these seeds that we should be sowing and how do we go about it? Are these seeds different to the seeds being sown by teachers of other subjects? Looked at in another way, do these seeds have any bearing on how children learn other disciplines, think about life and grow as individuals?
Learning (a bit) about Teaching and Learning through the Teaching and Learning of Maths (or L-bit for short) opens up a variety of strands for educators to reflect over. We investigate each of the following strands in finer detail and examine if there are lessons to be learnt and incorporated in our own teaching and learning practices.
More details regarding the L-Bit program can be found in the pdf document below.
